The Starting Line

Confession:  I took these pictures AFTER about 12 straight hours of cleaning (or maybe cleaning out would be more accurate.)  After spending my entire day off doing nothing more than tackling clutter, this is what I'm left with.  Sadly, I'm not even done with this phase.  It's like I've invaded and now I have to deal with the troublemakers.  (The troublemakers being my dresser and my closet.)  While everything is fairly under control on the surface, I still need to do a big clothing purge and do some serious organizing in my closet especially.  I think shelving may happen.

So now that I can really SEE my room, I realize it's not that bad.  It has its good points and its bad points.  My bed is great.  (Just too high.)  My rug sucks.  I have good hardwood floors underneath so I imagine they will be making an appearance soon.

My end table is quite sad.  It needs a serious cleaning inside (One of the drawers needs to be scraped.  GAG.)  I haven't decided if I will kick off this whole projects by dealing with the end table first or go straight for the walls.  I would love to have the walls done by Christmas so I could have my four-day weekend to work on the dresser...
The dresser is in better shape than the end table and is just a better quality piece of furniture.  It weighs a ton even with the drawers removed and that makes it a little scary to me.  I need to be able to get it outside to work on it which means I need help moving it and I also need good weather and most of all TIME.  The end table is so light I could hoist it up on my shoulder with one arm and walk around all day.  I think the dresser has tremendous potential though.  I can't help but envision a bold color and something jazzy happening across the drawers.  I've been eyeballing an over sized Art Deco stencil that would cover the whole front.  I've also been reading about stenciling with lace.  Or I might refinish the drawers and paint the rest.  I really don't know yet.  Will most likely reuse the original hardware.

My last dilemma is the bookcase.  I like my bookcase.  I will probably do nothing to it.  I was going to move it out of the room but now I'm not so sure.  I was also going to rearrange my furniture but I don't know if that's feasible.  If I rotate my bed, I lose a freakish amount of floor space.
