Every time I work on these projects, I do a lot with each session. That means every time I sit down to write, I have a lot to say and I usually end up not saying it all. I'm going to try to break this up into separate posts for the sake of my sanity.
So, first things first. I finished the bedside table. I taped off the drawers into chevrons using an extremely helpful technique suggested on another blog here. She posted a link to a pdf that you can just print out, cut out and use as a guideline to apply your tape without getting into a bunch of tedious ridiculousness. It turned out to be a fantastic suggestion. I couldn't get the pdf to print out but didn't really care. The drawers are quite small and I imagine her pattern was too big for my purposes anyway. Instead I used graph paper to make my own pattern.
I used Olympic "Panama Rose" for the chevrons. Okay... I have to say, pretty much none of the colors I used turned out like the sample card. I ended up using four different brands and this was true for all of them. I realize that whatever is behind the paint matters as does the light in the room. Still, these colors make me feel like I'm going crazy. They are all consistently lighter and brighter and some are warmer and others are cooler. Blerg. Whatever.
Anyway, here is the before and after for the bedside table. It didn't turn out how I expected but it's okay. As I said before, pretty much anything at all was an improvement over what I started with.
(Forgive the poor lighting and thus lackluster after-pic. I'll try to take a better one later.)
